Doug Eveleigh first came to NEMPET as an invited speaker in 2005. He gave an amazing (and amusing) talk on the history of cellulases that year and quickly became a big supporter of the meeting. Doug returned in 2006 to help start our annual Microbe Walk tradition along with Betsy Dexter Dyer. After that Doug continued coming to the meeting but more importantly, he started using funds from his endowed chair to start offering scholarships for students to attend. He was responsible for helping to support over a dozen students from several different schools.
